We Will Meet Again

Just that word to describe the temperature today.

Everyone was eager to get on the beach, even Nikora, Rina and Hippo, but there was an awful problem, and it was that humans also felt that hot, so, they occupied the beaches before someone could say “Mermaid” and to keep their secrecy they didn’t get in the water, the most close someone went into the beach was, obviously, Luchia, and that was to see Kaito’s morning surf, now those overheated mermaids were suffering outside Pearl Piari with a huge glass of iced tea, and, of course Hanon ideated a method of getting in the beach without getting caught, it was:

1: Using Hippo’s human form to attract all the girls.

2: Using Rina or Nikora in topless to attract all the boys.

3: Getting into the water deep enough no one could see them.

4:Enjoy the cool water!

But, as always, Rina and Nikora didn’t accepted to be bait, so the plan was screwed, they spent all the day planning and when it finally was decent, it was already sunset, tired they went into the hotel, but no one noticed that Luchia was missing.

Kaito’s POV

Damn, today was really hot, so I didn’t hesitate to get into the water as soon as I could, and as too expect, I saw 10 minutes later, the form of Luchia and her bento box, after I finished we talked a bit and she was gone to work on the hotel, sigh, I loved her, in secret, at least, when we were in that snow blizzard and found her, she was almost as cold as the snow that buried her, but she was still breathing, she still had hope, when I made that shelter she still was cold and was shivering, and when I wished more that she would live, I remembered all the moments we passed together, since we met in the beach, when we kissed because of the ghosts, we didn’t even move after they went outside of us, every moment we passed together, in that moment I realized that I loved her and that I couldn’t bear losing her, but I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn’t see the sudden move of the wave and I fell and just as I opened my eyes in the water I saw the mermaid, she was as beautiful as ever but I needed to talk to her.

“Hey, at last I found you”

She got closer to me and she put a finger in my lips, silencing me.

“Every time you want to see me, listen to my song where we first met”

“But”

Then she smiled a bit, it was the first time I saw her smile, a happy one at least

“We will meet again, someday, meanwhile, keep looking for me”

And then she retreated very swiftly, so much that I couldn’t pursue her.

I floated to the top and once I was on the sand I lay on there, thinking, what could she mean? Would someday be our last encounter?

I went home and changed clothes, but I kept my swimsuit, man, today was really hot, sigh, I kept thinking about who did I loved, Luchia or the mermaid, why did they had to be somewhat alike, what if…

I was laying in my bed, but at that question I sat immediately, how couldn’t see it before?

Mermaid, Luchia, Mermaid, Luchia, it made sense, but how could I be sure that Luchia was my mermaid?

I repased mentally all the times, the first time I saw her she was watching me compete, when I fell seconds later the mermaid appeared from the coast, then, in the festival she san the same song, ran and later the mermaid appeared, and then in the aquarium she went missing and then I found her in front of me, then when I was competing and she went to cheer me, after the contest she had said that she would leave, a bit later I saw the mermaid and she said that she probably wouldn’t see me again, also I have never seen her get into a pool or the beach, on the water ride when we were splashed she ran immediately from there, also her pendant is the same and on the day before her birth day she said she would come back to her country, and when Momo took me to the mermaid palace, she said she wouldn’t come back, also including that she didn’t know many things that are normal here, it all fitted, I had finally found my mermaid! But where could I find her and tell her the truth?

That’s it! I need to find her, but, how do I know when she would be? I’d better wait until sunset; it would be more secure at that time that all people retired from the beaches.

4 hours later

It was almost time to get in there, it was almost midnight, I remembered that piece of beach, secluded by rocks and a high tide on the nights, I got out of my house and ran all the way in there, I hid my shirt in a place and swam all the way to that piece of beach, when I was there I hid behind a rock an waited the song, it wasn’t long enough, a bit later I heard footsteps, a dive and I heard the song:

Blown by a wind of seven colours

I was aiming for the

Faraway peak of the plateau

The melody I heard before the dawn was a nostalgic song

She was there! But her song sounded different, it didn’t had the same happy tone that I was used to, now it was a slow tone, I could almost hear in her voice all the sadness in her eyes, I looked around and got out of my hide place.

Our lives will be reborn so I can communicate my love

I followed silently the voice, the mermaid was sitting on a rock surrounded by water, a little island, about ten meters from where I was, she was facing the moon, which was on the side of the town so I could see her face, I was right, she was sad, then I saw a tear come from her eyes, her voice didn’t broke but more and more tears came.

After the night of the storm

A melody of seven lands

Even if the day would come when no one else travles here

I will not forget

Then she started crying, really crying.

“Stupid Kaito* Sob * why don’t you see who am I? * Sob * Why are you so naive? Why do I have to be heartbroken * Sob * every time you talk about when I’m like this? * Sob *Why?”

Then she kept crying like that for a long time, I was right, she was Luchia, she then dried completely and her mermaid form gave place to her human form, she stood in place for some seconds but then she collapsed on the floor, I couldn’t bear this anymore, I had to be with her, I ran silently to where the water was and swam all the way to the rock, luckily it wasn’t very far and the rock wasn’t very high, I climbed it and found myself with a crying Luchia, she was so sad, and was my fault.

“Luchia”

She froze and turned around with eyes still with tears, she stood and I got closer to her.

“Kaito”

When she said my name, I closed our gap and took her on a hug.

“I am so sorry, Luchia, I am so sorry for being a blind person, for not seeing something that I had in front of my eyes, someone who had been in front of my eyes all the time, Luchia, I know now who you are.”

I sank to my knees taking a frozen Luchia with me

“Kaito, you finally found?”

“Yes, Luchia, I finally found you”

A few seconds later, a huge wave crashed against us, soaking us completely, her pendant flashed a bright pink light and she transformed.

“Kaito, Kaito! You found me, you found me, I am so happy”

She returned my hug and she cried again, but now they were happy tears, she buried her face in my chest and I pressed my face against her hair, apart from the salty water smell, I could smell a different scent, it was a floral scent, somehow.

“Kaito”

She looked at me and smiled.

Then I bent down slowly to meet her face and kiss her, she knew what I wanted to do and stretched her neck to meet me, she snaked her arms around my neck and I closed the final gap between us, she closed her eyes a second before I did, we kept kissing for a few seconds, then a wave knocked us and we fell into the water, we kept kissing, not heated but rather slowly, just enough to taste the moment, surprisingly, I didn’t run out of air, we surfaced and we finally separated, looking into each other’s eyes, I found myself lost on a deep blue sea that were her eyes, the most beautiful I would ever see in my life, we swam to the shore and we lay in there, she beside me, her head in my chest, listening to my heartbeat while tracing an invisible pattern with her finger.

“Kaito…”

“Mmm?”

“How did you find who I was?”

“Well, after you told me to follow your song I went home and I thought about it, I was thinking that you were very alike to that mermaid that it suddenly went into my mind that you could be her, and after thinking I realized you were her, I think I knew it since a long time ago but I didn’t want to believe it”

“I am glad you found out”

“I am glad that I found it too, Luchia”

“I Love you Kaito.”

“I Love you too, Luchia, since the moment I met you.”
