Moving On

Rima's POV

Today was the day. The day I had been waiting for. My golden curls landed lightly on my shoulders, as the wind began to drift around me. School had just ended, and my mom had agreed not to pick me up today. Because...

Today was a special day.

I shifted my weight from one foot, to the other. KusuKusu stared at me with interest. She knew what was special about today. Almost everyone did.

And then, I saw him. He approached me slowly, the wind blowing his violet hair behind him. His golden brown eyes locked onto me, and he smiled, waving at me to gain my attention. But I was already completely absorbed by him. It was hard not to notice him. He stopped a couple feet away from me, and I had to look up to see his face, seeing as how he was much more taller than me.

"Good afternoon, Mashiro-san." He smiled.
"Um...G..Good afternoon, Fujisaki." I muttered in response. I could feel a blush creeping onto my face.

We were silent for a moment. Our equally golden eyes seemed to melt together. His smile was impossible to resist. I wanted his attention more than anything else in the world.

"Well then. Shall we, Mashiro-san?" He stared down at me, and softly grabbed my hand.

My cheeks flared crimson, and I nodded slowly. KusuKusu giggled, and I shot her a glare, but quickly smiled to show her I was only joking. We walked together, our hands fitting perfectly together. Our pace was slow. I wanted it to be slow. I wanted to cherish this moment.

This was the special moment. The one I had waited for all day.

Nagihiko Fujisaki was walking me home from school.

Rima's POV

"Why can't YOU drive her to school once in a while?!"
"I'll busy at my job!"
"I have a job too, you know!"
"Rima's kidnapping was your fault!"
"What?! You're just as guilty!"
"Shut up, you heartless bastard!"
"Ladies first, wench!"

I silently sat down on the couch, my parents useless argument blending in with the background. I snatched the remote and flipped through the channels. Nothing was on, of course. There was nothing ever on anymore.

"Rima, can you go up to your room, please?" My mother asked, her tone containing slight irritation.

I almost never argued with my parents. Besides, I was just a kid. Why would they listen to MY opinion?

I quickly got up from the couch and hurried up the stairs to my room, locking the door behind me. I flopped down on my bed, burying my face into the nearest pillow. Sobs suddenly burst from my chest, and tears trailed down my cheeks, flowing nonstop.

"They're ALWAYS fighting! They don't care about how I feel! I'm lonely! I'm lonely....So lonely....."

And then, an idea struck me.

I grabbed my cell phone. My fingers flew along the numbers, and my thumb urgently hit the "Call" button. I let the first couple rings go by, until a voice came onto the line.

"Hello, Fujisaki residence. May I ask who's calling?" Nagihiko's voice asked curiously.
"H...Hi, Fujisaki...." I murmured.
"Ah, Mashiro-san. Good evening." Nagihiko answered cheerfully.

Suddenly, I couldn't hold it back anymore. I burst into tears, right there, with Nagihiko listening.

"M...Mashiro-san?! Are you alright?!" He gasped, his tone urgent and concerned.
"F...Fu...Fujisaki....W...Will you go.....on a date with me?" I sobbed, not truly believing I had just said those words.

Silence. Pure silence. He seemed to be pondering it. I could here him fuming on the other line. Finally, a sigh was heard, and I expected the worst. Instead, I heard the BEST.

"Of course, Mashiro-san. You know, you could have asked me sooner." He giggled.

My face felt hot, and I felt a wave of dizziness consume me. I forced myself to keep from fainting, and to respond.

"O...Ok! Wha...What t..t...time?!" I sputtered.
"How about after school?" I could almost imagine the smile on his face as he said that.
"Ok....." I breathed.

"Goodnight.....Rima-tan." He said, smothering a laugh.
"Goodnight.....Nagi-kun." And I hung up.

I cupped my face in my hands, my cheeks burning bright red. Had I really done it? Had I really asked him out....on a date?

I sighed, falling back onto my bed. KusuKusu curled up next to me, giggling. I gripped tightly onto me pillow, smiling to myself. And then I fell asleep, wondering what kind of fun would await me the very next morning.
