The Artist and the Twins

Chapter 6
Realization

Rin walked up to me.

"well, while you wait for the storm to pass, why don't you rest?" she asked "you've been walking for a long while. You should at least rest a little bit"

"Oh that's okay." I said. "I'm fine. I don't need to rest." Len walked up to me and just stared. It was the weirdest stare ever. He didn't say anything. He just stared at me. Then Rin was doing the same thing. It was so creepy. It's like when you're singing the national anthem and you miss a note and, people start staring at you all weird like 'wow you just fail but I'm happy that you're at least trying'. That was the kind of stare they were giving me, but it was fifty percent more creepy.

"Uhh why are you two...staring at me...like...that..." I asked. They both smiled.

"Just rest." they said. Then everything went black. I couldn't see, feel or hear anything. It was like being stuck in a dark room with no windows or doors. But then I began to see something. It was a vision of some sort. I saw a young girl drawing pictures of her stuffed animals. I couldn't see the young girls face, but she looked so familiar. I couldn't get a good look at the stuffed animals, but I did see what the picture on the paper looked like. It looked just like one of the pictures on the wall in Rin and Len's hallway. Then I realized, that it was one of the pictures on that wall. Rin and Len didn't draw the pictures, this young girl did! The picture had Rin, Len, and The young girl in it. I wanted to find out more, but my vision went away. It was all darkness again. Then suddenly, I woke up.

I could only see with one eye. For some reason I was blindfolded. I looked around with my eyes. I noticed that I was in a small bedroom. There were candles lit everywhere. Rin and Len were sitting in a nearby sofa, and they were talking. I didn't think they noticed that I was awake.

"I wish we never went to that awful place..." Rin said to Len.

"Rin, its all over now. You can relax." Len said.

'What are they talking about?' I thought. Then I noticed something that was beyond freaky. I looked at their shadows. They were the size of toys.

'What the hell is going on here?' I thought. Then suddenly, Rin looked at me. She had a surprised look on her face. Len looked and then he looked surprised.

"You bad kid! You woke up early." Len said.

"When your blindfold comes off, should I just blind you instead?" Rin asked. I sat up.

"Uhh no." I took off the blindfold. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of a blindfold to cover both eyes? Not just one?"

Len looked at Rin with a disappointed look.

"Okay so I drank a little bit." Rin said. "Nothing wrong with that."

"Is the storm gone yet?" I asked.

"No it's still raining." Rin answered.

"Oh.." I thought about Rin and Len's shadows, the pictures, and the vision I had. I knew it had to mean something. I began to think they were somehow connected in some way. I knew that Rin and Len knew something. So I had to ask them some questions without them getting suspicious.

"You know, I really like those pictures on the wall in your hallway." I said with a friendly smile. Rin and Len smiled.

"I'm glad you like them." Len said.

'They were drawn by our favorite artist." Rin said. "She never fails when it comes to drawing."

Okay so that didn't do much. I had to ask something else.

"So who is your favorite artist?" I asked.

"Our favorite artist is our favorite artist." Rin answered.

'Oh yeah! Got a lot of info on that answer!' I thought.

I looked around the room, and noticed a door. There was something sticking out from under it. I stood up and walked over to the door.

"Oh I'm sorry." Len said. "You're not allowed to open that door.

"Yeah." Rin said. "It's off limits."

"Oh." I said. Rin and Len smiled.

"Come downstairs with us." said Len. "I'll make some tea."

"..ok" I said. Then we all went downstairs into the tea room. I wanted to know what was behind that door. There was something different about it. Other than something sticking out from under it. Rin and I sat down at the small white table in the tea room. Len went into the kitchen to make the tea.

"So are you and Len brother and sister?" I asked

"Oh of course we are." Rin answered. " we sometimes argue but other times we enjoy eachother's company."

"Oh that's cool."

"We also love it when other people come over, but it doesn't happen that often. You're pretty much the first guest we've had in a long time."

"Ow! Damnit! Rin! I need your help with the tea!" Len called out from the kitchen.

"I'll be right there, Len." Rin said "Wait here okay?"

"Uh ok." I said

Then she rushed out of the room. I was left alone. Then I realized that this was a perfect opportunity to check out that door upstairs. They weren't looking so I quickly and quietly rushed up the stairs and back into the room I woke up in. I walked over to the strange door., and opened it. There was a large old cardboard box, full of old pictures. I looked at them. Most of them were a picture of that young girl with her stuffed animals. I looked at the other stuff inside the box. All the rest of the stuff was a county fair ticket that was already expired, some old crayons, and old paper. Then I noticed another picture under the paper. I looked at it. It was a picture of the young girl with her stuffed animals at the county fair. I looked at the date on the picture, and I looked at the date on the county fair ticket. They were exactly the same. I looked at the box of crayons again. I noticed there was some writing on the side of the box. It read 'This box belongs to...' The rest was not legible. That was pretty disappointing. I decided to keep looking in the box to see if there was anything else.

"You were always so curious." I nearly jumped. I turned around. Rin and Len were right behind me. I froze. I tried to say something, but no words came out.

"What's wrong?" Rin asked. She had the most sinister smile I had ever seen in my entire life. Len had the same smile. I tried to ignore it and tried to say something.

"Uh. Alright! I want some answers." I said. I showed them the picture of the girl and her stuffed animals. "Who is this?" Rin and Len looked at eachother and laughed.

"Brie, how could you not realize that the young girl in that picture, is you?" Len asked. I was speechless. I quickly looked at the picture again, and Len was right. That girl in the picture is me.
