Chapter 3
Lost
"Don't come any closer!" I yelled. Then the figure was under one of the streetlights. It was Jeremiah. I put away my taser and stood up.
"Dude! What the hell? You scared the crap out of me!" I yelled. Jeremiah laughed.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to see how you would react." he said
"Well you got to see. So what are you doing here?"
"You forgot your cell phone." he handed me my pink cell phone. I put it in my pocket and hugged Jeremiah.
"Thank you! I'm just completely lost without my cell phone."
"Your welcome." he smiled at me and I smiled at him.
"Well... I'll see you later." I said. I began to walk. Jeremiah stopped me.
"Wait." he said.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Do you think...I could walk home with you? We do live close to each other." I blushed a little bit,
"Umm yeah. Sure" I smiled. Then we began to walk home together.
"I was thinking we could cut through the park to get home." I said. "Does that sound okay?"
"If it's alright with you it's alright with me." Jeremiah said. On the way to the park we talked a lot.
"So how's 'Officer Mike' and his new job going?" Jeremiah asked
"Ehh I think he's doing ok. He's thinking about quitting though cuz he doesn't think it's important."
"Oh I see"
Then suddenly, I began hearing voices.
Come to the forest, Brie
I stopped and looked around. I looked at Jeremiah.
"Did..did you say something just now?" I asked.
"Yeah, I said 'Oh I see' after you sai-" Jeremiah said
"No no! After that! You just said I should go to the forest didn't you?"
"I didn't say anything like that."
I didn't know what to think. I know I heard a voice just now, but I didn't know where it came from. I continued to walk home with Jeremiah. After walking for a few minutes, I heard a voice again.
Come closer...
"Did you hear that?" I asked.
"Heard what?" Jeremiah asked.
"That voice!"
"I didn't hear anything."
I was starting to feel scared, I'm hearing things that others don't. I didn't know if I was just hearing things or that I was going insane.
Brie...Come to the forest...
The voice sounded like it was coming from the right. I looked, and across the street was the forest. I tried to ignore it, but for some reason, I wanted to go inside.
"Hey.. give me that..?" I said
"What?" Jeremiah asked.
"Your iphone, can you give it to me for a second?" I asked. "I want to check the map of the area."
"Sure." Jeremiah handed me his iphone. I opened the map app on the phone and checked the forest area. There was a path that goes right to our neighborhood.
"Oh cool. Let's go through the forest." I said.
"Are you serious?" Jeremiah asked. "Our parents have been telling us to stay away from there ever since we were kids."
"They were probably just saying that, so we wouldn't get dirty." I said. I laughed a little bit at what I just said. "haha.. so we wouldn't get dirty haha... So you coming?"
"...Yeah." Jeremiah. I could tell he was nervous. But if I was gonna go in, he would follow me. I held his hand.
"Don't worry. Just hold me hand, and we'll be fine." I said with a smile. Jeremiah held my hand. His hand was warm and boney. I blushed a little bit because he was holding my hand.
Come inside...Deep into the forest...
"Let's go in" I said. "We'll just follow the path on the map on your iphone and we'll be home."
"Okay.." Jeremiah said.
We both walked into the forest. It was dark, but it was light enough to tell where you're going. I looked up. There was a full moon out tonight. And the moon was huge and a yellowish color. Almost as if it was sinister. I looked at the iphone map.
"Okay if we keep going this way we'll be out of here." I said.
"Okay." Jeremiah said. "I just wanna get out of here."
"I know. And we will." I smiled at him. "No worries."
Don't leave...stay here...
I stopped and looked around to se if anybody besides me and Jeremiah were inside the forest. But it was so dark and I couldn't see that much. I shone the iphone around to see, but nobody was there.
"What's wrong?" Jeremiah asked.
"Uh..I thought I heard someone again." I answered "It's so weird..why am I hearing voices all of a sudden?"
"You schizophrenic?" Jeremiah asked.
"No. Of course not. Let's just get out of here."
We continued to walk though the forest. It was kind of hard to see where we were going, but at least Jeremiah's iphone had a flashlight app, which was just a white screen.
Don't leave...
I stopped for a second, and continued. The voices were driving me to freaking drink. Where were they coming from? Then suddenly, the entire forest was in fog. Very thick fog. I couldn't see anything at all. Not even the flashlight could break through it. But me and Jeremiah continued walking.
"Hey Jeremiah, how are your folks?" I asked. There was no response. I quickly turned around.
"Jeremiah?" He was gone. "Jeremiah? Where are you!" I figured he got scared and ran out of the forest without telling me, so I decided to walk back. I walked for fifthtyfive minutes, but I couldn't find the exit. Jeremiah's iphone beeped loudly, which almost scared the crap out of me. I looked at it and the battery was dieing.
'That's impossible!' I thought. 'The battery was full when we walked into the forest' I thought fast and decided to call for help. I dialed 911.
"911 what is your emergency?" said the woman on the phone.
"Hi. I'm lost in the forest, and I need help finding my friend." I said.
"Where exacly are you ma'm?" The woman asked.
"I'm at-" The phone beeped loudly and then died. "No!" I tried to turn the phone back on but it didn't work. The phone was completely dead from battery loss.
"Dammit! Son of a bitch!" I said. I put the iphone in my pocket and remembered that my phone was in my pocket. I quickly got out my phone and I realized that it was off for some reason. I turned it on and realized that there were no bars left on my phone too. Then my phone instantly died too.
'What the hell?' I thought. 'How is this happening?'
Come deeper into the forest...deeper...deeper...
I couldn't take it anymore.
"Alright who the hell are you? I know someone is there! Show yourself!" I yelled as I got out my taser.
Come deeper into the forest...
I didn't know what to do. Both of the phones are dead and I had no idea where to go next. I know the first rule of survival was to stay put, but I wanted to get out so badly I couldn't wait that long for my friends and family to come find me. I decided to keep going. The fog was so thick, I had to feel my way through the forest. I walked for two hours, but I couldn't find the way out. I didn't know if I was going around in circles or if I got deeper into the forest. But I continued to walk, until I hit something. It felt like something metal. I looked closer. It was a metal fence. I looked and saw bright lights up ahead. It was a large house. I figured somebody was living there. Somebody who could help me get out of the forest. I quickly felt for the fence door, and opened it. I ran up to the house.
