Chapter 4
The Twins
Come closer, Brie...Come closer...
"God Dammit! where the hell are these voices coming from!" I yelled. I continued to run until I accidentally hit one of the trees in front of the house. That was pretty much my fault. I was running in thick fog on a dark night. But thank god I didn't hit it that hard. I got up and continued to walk up to the house. I was so relieved that somebody lived in the forest. That person living there could help me find the way out. Or have a phone, so I can call the police to come and help me find Jeremiah. But then I thought that Jeremiah could be inside too. That made me start running again.
I continued to run until I got to the front door. I looked at it. The door was a made with redwood. My favorite type of wood, because it never rots and it is super strong.
'Maybe I should...' I thought. 'nah...what if they never watched that show? They would think I'm a weirdo with a disorder... ehh what the hell? I should care less about what other people think of me.'
I knocked on the door three times
"Hello?"
I knocked on the door three times again
"Hello?"
I knocked three times again.
"Hello?"
I waited, and then a young boy answered the door. He looked like he was about 13 or 14. He had blonde hair and a little ponytail. He wore a black suit with red fabric detail. He was laughing.
"Haha! Good one." He said. "I love that show. It's so funny." I smiled.
"I'm sorry to bother you tonight, but I'm lost and my friend is missing. May I use your phone?" I asked.
"Oh you poor thing! Of course you can. Please, please come in." said the boy.
"Thank you so much." I said. I walked inside. The house was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside. It looked like a victorian style home. It was so warm inside the house, it was comforting.
"Wow. It's so nice in here." I said. "You must be loaded."
"Well.. not really," said the boy. "We bought this house a long time ago and it came with the furniture."
"Oh that's coo- wait. What do you mean we?" I asked. "Is there another person living here?"
"Oh! I almost forgot. Hey Rin!" He said.
A young girl walked into the room. She had blonde hair, a white bow on top of her head, and a black dress with white lace trim with red fabric detail. She looked the same as the boy did. I figured they were twins.
'Rin...?' I thought. 'Why does that sound so familiar...?'
"Oh who is this?" she asked.
"This is... uh.. I'm sorry. I afraid I don't know your name." said the boy.
"My name is Brie." I said. "I know her name, but I don't know yours"
"Oh I'm sorry. My name is Len." he said.
'Rin and Len...why is it so familiar?...'
Rin and Len were staring at me. They had these smiles on their faces that were cute and extremely creepy at the same time. I looked away from them.
"Umm... I'm sorry. I really need to use your phone, and my friend is still missing." I said nervously. Len took my hand and began walking me into the other room. Rin was right behind me. She took my other hand and walked with Len.
"I'm sure your friend is alright." she said. "Come and stay a while."
"But I really need to use the phone." I said. "He might be still lost in the forest."
"He'll be fine." Len said. "Please stay a while."
They walked me into a little room. There was some candles, a couch, and a small coffee table . There wasn't much to look at, but the room was cute. Both Rin and Len let go of my hands.
"Please sit down." Len said. "You must've walked a long way."
"I'm sorry, but I really need to use your phone." I said. "I don't have time to stay a while."
"Please. Sit." Rin said. "You're the first guest we've had in a very long time. Please stay a while." She looked at me with sad eyes. Len did the same, but he looked slightly less sad than Rin did. I began to feel guilty. I walked over to the couch and sat down. Rin and Len both smiled. I didn't want to stay a while, but I didn't want to make them upset. I was still thinking about using the phone. Rin handed me a piece of paper and a pencil.
"Can you draw?" Rin asked.
"uhh yeah." I answered.
"Can you...draw me and Rin?" Len asked. "We're not very good at drawing."
"Uhh yeah. Sure" I answered. I put the paper on the coffee table, and began drawing Rin and Len. They looked over my shoulder as I drew them, and that really bothers me. But I pretended that it didn't. It took me about fifth teen minutes to finish the drawing. Right when I finished it, Len grabbed it and looked at it. Rin rushed over and looked at it too. Which was pretty pointless because they were hovering over my shoulders the entire time. Plus I thought it was pretty rude that they just grabbed it from me. I wanted to make sure if I really was finished with it or not. After a few seconds of staring at the picture and a very awkward silence, they smiled.
"You were always such an artist.." Len whispered. Well, at least that's what I think what he said. I didn't really get what he really said. He was so quiet when he said whatever.
"uhh what?" I asked. Len and Rin quickly looked at me.
"Oh uh. Nothing." Rin said. She walked out of the room. "I'll be right back."
Len sat next to me on the couch. He tried to look at me but I looked away.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing." I answered. "It's just hard for me to look at people.."
"Oh I see." Len said. He put his hand on my shoulder. His hand was slightly cold. "You autistic?"
"Yeah... How did you know?"
"I've done a little research here and there on autism."
"Oh that's cool." I was surprised. I didn't really think other people besides the autistic kids, understood autism or really even cared, but Len went on and on about how much he knew about it and he observed a young child with autism a long time ago. When he finished talking, Rin came back into the room with a cinnamon stick and a glass pitcher.
