Chapter 3
Headaches and Guitars?
"...A famous actress and famous chef were found dead by their own child i-"
Rin turned off the TV, thinking to herself about how depressing the news was. Humans seemed to get into more trouble then they were worth, compared to Rin who could just kill off a threat by taking their soul away from them. The couch was uncomfortable, but Rin couldn't bring herself to move, because she didn't want to sleep yet. She stared at the white ceiling abive her, it was flat and boring.
"Urgh..." Rin muttered, "How boring can you get?"
Rin was used to 12 hours of training per day, getting home late and falling asleep after a few minutes, she rarely had free time. Free time felt odd to her, though. Rin dragged her feet upstairs.
'I guess I'll just sleep then.' Rin thought angrily to herself.
She flopped down on her bed, without bothering to change into nightwear and fell asleep slowly. Her bedroom was brightly coloured and reflected her dreams, so nobody but her came inside it. Her bed was warm and comfortable, it made Rin feel extra safe.
Rin woke for school with a grin on her face, she couldn't wait to see Len again. Though she wouldn't admit it, it felt nice that a person of the other gender other then her father actually cared for her. Len cared about everyone though, it was another part of his flawless personality. If he didn't care about someone, he'd probably feel depressed or something. Rin hopped downstairs, grabbed a breakfast bar because she wasn't particularly hungry and walked out of her house. The school was around 30 minutes away from her house, which gave her a lot of time to think.
Once Rin reached the school gates, she put on her usual cold and confident mask. She didn't want others to feel that they could outsmart her, because she was stronger then them. It was a windy day and not many were outside, they were in their classrooms. Rin sat down in her seat once she reached her classroom, holding her smile back and looking at the rest of her class without them noticing. A few things the girls said caught her attention.
"Where is Len-sama? He's never late!" They all said, "I hope he's okay!"
Rin ignored them, thinking that everyone was late once in a while. As class began, Rin considered what she first thought. Halfway through her second class, Len finally arrived.
The door slammed open against the wall and everyone, even the teacher, looked to see what had done it. An angel without wings was standing in the doorway, panting with flushed cheeks, he looked incredibly cute. He had his school bag on one shoulder and his guitar case on the other, his school uniform was messy.
"S-Sorry I'm l-late!" He panted, bowing in front of the blue haired teacher.
Mr Shion looked taken aback by Len's formal apology, "Um, please take your seat Mr Kagamine."
"Yes sir!" Len said as he rushed over to his seat, his breathing still a little accelerated.
"I will talk to you after class, Len." The blue haired man said, scowling at Len, "As I was saying, class..."
Len didn't seem to be in a great mood for the rest of class, he spaced out regularly and everyone noticed. At the end of class, Mr Shion asked Len to come with him to his office.
"Sit down please, Len." He said, taking a sip from his freshly made coffee.
"Yes, Mr Shion." Len said formally, putting his school bag and guitar down beside the chair and then sitting on it.
"Just call me Kaito for now, I can tell something's wrong Len. I've never seen you late or depressed before." Kaito stated, his voice becoming more informal and concerned with every word, "So could you tell me what's wrong?"
"I snuck out out this morning, they didn't want me to come to school today." Len stated, his voice in a monotone, "They said it would be too much for me to handle."
"Who said that?" Kaito asked, "Your parents?"
"No, the social workers, the police and hospital." Len replied, he sounded depressed.
"What happened?" Kaito asked, his voice was confused and he raised an eyebrow.
"W-When I came home yesterday," Len began, "It was my birthday, so I was expecting my mother to be waiting by the door to hug me, but she wasn't. She was by the door, but she was just standing there, her face was blank...I checked her pulse and she wasn't breathing...I found my dad in the lounge, checked his pulse too, and he wasn't breathing either...I called the ambulance and they told me they had died, but they weren't sure why. They couldn't find anything wrong with them when they took xrays and scans."
"Er..." Kaito wasn't sure what to say, Len looked on the verge of tears, but he didn't want to say something that might upset him even further.
"I threw away all of my birthday presents, I wasn't in the mood..." Len said, sniffing as he cried, "My mother was an actress and my father was a world class chef, so they didn't really spend much time with me...but when they did, they always made me feel special..."
"Why did you come in to school today?" Kaito questioned.
"It takes my mind off things, I don't want to be stuck talking to people I don't know." Len replied in a mutter, shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
"Hm..." Kaito was thinking, "Go and clean yourself up, and you can go back to class."
"Yes sir." Len replied, standing again and exiting through the door.
"The poor kid..." Kaito sighed to himself.
"Lenny~!" A sweet voice called out, it belonged to a teal haired girl, slightly older then Len. Her long hair was tied into pig tails and she looked overly cheerful. The voice belonged to Miku Hatsune, also known as one of Len's best friends.
Miku ran over to Len, hugging him, "I got a call from the police yesterday, I can't believe it! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Miku." Len mumbled, looking down.
The teal haired girl wasn't convinced and tilted Len's head up with her hands so that she could see it. Although Len had spent a while making sure his face showed as little of his tears as possible, his eyes were still a bit red.
"I can tell you've been crying, Lenny." Miku said, her voice still sweet, "But just so you know, I'll always be there for you."
"Tha-" Len began, but he was cut off by Miku's lips on his.
Len didn't react at all to Miku, he didn't pull away or kiss back, Miku was secretly melting inside, thinking how awesome the moment was. She pulled away after half a minute or so. Len was left completely dumbstruck, he wasn't gawking, but he was standing there, obviously confused as to what had just happened.
Miku leaned into Len's ear and muttered something before walking off with a grin on her face.
'His lips are so soft!' Miku thought, going into her fantasy world. She was sent to become friends and trick Len, but she had already fallen in love with him, long ago.
Len shook his head, trying to forget about what just happened and walked back to the hospital, hoping that maybe the doctors had figured out the reason his parents died.
What both Len and Miku didn't know, is that Rin had been watching their interesting exchange the whole time. She knew that Miku was lying, she could see it in her eyes. Miku had killed Len' parents by destroying their souls, but only Rin could see something that deep. She was a mastermind after all!
When Len reached the hospital, he had a splitting headache, he felt sick and he knew something was wrong, but he ignored it all. He ignored it until it became too much. He fell to the ground with a thud while the doctors were talking about the data they had collected from his parents and the doctors rushed him to a ward...because it was obvious he was totally healthy and that he shouldn't faint on the spot like that...
"Urghhh..." Len moaned when he awoke, he was sitting on a typical hospital bed, still wearing his school clothes.
"Glad to see your awake, did my analysis bore you that much?" An unfamiliar voice laughed, Len could tell it was a doctor.
"I'm sorry, I felt ill before." Len replied, he sounded like he was in pain.
"Heh, it's fine." The doctor said, "Relax and social services are going to come and get you in 20 minutes."
"Okay." Len said and immediately fell asleep.
