Chapter 5
Music to My Ears
Rin was eating her breakfast when Meiko visited the house one morning.
"Hey, Meiko-sensei." Rin greeted her, eating another spoonful of her cereal, "What's going on?"
"Oh, nothing really." Meiko replied, sleep obvious in her voice, "I just came to check on you and pick up some sake."
"Hm, well I should probably get to school, the music festival is on today." Rin muttered, hoping Meiko wouldn't hear. She washed her bowl up and started to walk to the hallway.
"Really, a music festival?" Meiko asked, opening a bottle of sake, "Is Len performing?"
"Yeah." Rin replied, leaving the kitchen.
"Rin, you should know that Len's singing voice is-" Meiko started, but the front door slammed before she had time to finish.
Everyone at school was buzzing, the music festival was one of the highlights of the school year. As Rin walked past people, she heard Len's name a lot, she thought they were probably talking about him performing. If he was 'perfection' as the story portrayed him to be, he must have had a great voice to match! A few minutes later, every student was standing in front of an outdoor stage, eagerly trying to reach the front of it. The school principle came onto the stage.
"I am happy to announce, that everyone's favourite singer Len Kagamine will be opening the festival this year." He stated and everybody cheered, "So please welcome him on stage."
The principle walked off of the stage as Len walked on, he carried a guitar in his hands and a grin on his face. He sat down on the sat in the middle of the stage. Then, something awesome happened. Len sang.
"A spring-like breeze rolls around the outside of the school building,
A sweet scowl, it's already over isn't it?
It was just a short while ago when, we talked about a lot of things.
Nostalgically thinking back to, when we would meet up at the usual place.
You always remembered everything,
Always chasing after your unreachable dreams,
No matter where they make that you,
And yet, you don't feel lonely~"
Everyone was awe struck, even Rin couldn't help it. It was silent, nobody talked to interrupt Len, it was so peaceful.
"These precious memories will always remain in my heart,
Earnestly holding onto a clover that you picked me.
Thank you for all the love that you've shown me,
Thank you for making every day wonderful.
My heart is in pain, and yet,
Somehow I don't feel lonely~"
Len played his guitar without singing for a few moments, yet it was still silent and everyone looked hypnotised.
"After leaving this tree trunk, we'll each go our separate ways,
And even when the leaves and branches grow, everything's the same."
Len's voice was so beautiful and emotion filled, people were already crying.
"You always remember everything,
Always chasing after your unreachable dreams,
No matter where they take you,
And yet, you don't feel lonely~
Even though I've cried a little bit,
And even though my heart hurts this much,
Thank you for such wonderful days,
Somehow I...somehow, I don't feel so lonely,
Thank you for those days~
Thank you~
La~ La~"
He stopped and a few seconds later:
"I LOVE YOU LEN!" "WHOOO!" "GO LEN!"
Everyone was clapping a cheering, even Rin couldn't stop herself.
"That was called Clover." Len said into the mic in front of him, "It's a really beautiful song that I think should get more publicity."
"We agree!" Everyone chanted, it was a strange sight.
"I have to let the rest of the festival go on now, but thank you for listening!" Len said, getting up and walking off stage before anyone could protest.
Rin wandered anyway from the music festival, searching for Len, and she found him. Sadly, Miku was there, so she hid in a bush.
Miku was staring into his eyes deeply, "Your song earlier was wonderful, Len."
"T-Thank you!" Len replied, staring back into Miku's eyes.
"Do you desire anything, Len?" Miku asked, muttering into Len's ear so that not even Rin could hear and without waiting for a reply said, "Because if you do, you should get what you want before the chance disappears."
Miku then strolled off, leaving a confused Len fixed to the spot. Rin decided it might be a good time to talk to him now.
Miku found her brother and took him to an empty classroom.
"I know what Len desires now." Miku stated in a hushed tone, "It's not something I would of expected."
"Really?" Mikuo replied, "What does he want?"
"I guess, like me, you would probably think he wants his parents back or something like that," Miku said, "But, he doesn't. He wants that Rin girl as he own, he seems to have grown attached to her...it makes me sick!"
"Miku-"
"But I guess she'll have a little shock when she realises how...strong, his desire for her is." Miku said, she was grinning evilly.
"Please don't tell me you-"
"Yes, I exaggerated his desire in his mind. He is crazy for her now." Miku laughed, "We'll all get to see how sexy Len acts, hm?"
"You are awesome, y'know that?" Mikuo said, smiling.
"Once Len is completely consumed with his desire, we can easily get him." Miku said, ignoring Mikuo's comment.
The two Hatsune's laughed together.
"Hey, Len!" Rin said as she approached him.
"Rin..." Len muttered, looking at her carefully.
"Are you alright?" Rin questioned.
"Rin, what do you think about me?" Len asked, staring at her, his face coming slightly closer to hers.
'I think your cute, smart and amazing! I love you!' Rin screamed in her head, but she could never bring herself to say that.
"Your nice..." Rin mumbled, feeling herself blush a little.
"Rin, I really like you." Len's face wasn't even an inch from Rin's and she could feel her blush deepen. Len didn't sound very normal, though, he sounded different.
"You're beautiful." Len breathed on Rin's face, it dazed Rin a little.
"Er..." Rin was in a daze, though she knew she shouldn't have been.
Len kissed Rin. It was a little forced by Len, but it nonetheless felt nice for Rin, she did enjoy it. Once they broke apart after a few minutes, Rin noticed a problem. Len's eyes seemed slightly glazed over, so Rin decided it was best to read him before he kissed her again. Rin found it difficult, but after a few seconds, she knew she wasn't with the usual Len, something was influencing him to act differently.
"Who did it, Len?" Rin asked, trying not to stare into his eyes too much.
"Did what?" Len asked seductively, Rin froze.
'He can actually pull that off?' Rin thought to herself.
"Could you let me go?" Rin asked quietly, looking downwards, but Len only strengthened his grip on Rin.
"I want you to be mine, now." Len whispered into Rin's ear, a smirk spreading across his features.
Rin considered her options for a second. She looked up.
"Sorry, Len..." She whispered, it was barely audible.
Len looked back at Rin and froze on the spot. Rin looked concentrated as she stared Len down, obviously thinking hard.
'If part of my job is erasing his feelings, whether or not real, for me, then I'll do it.' Rin thought, repeating it to herself.
Len went limb, flopping onto to Rin.
"Gosh, I didn't think he'd faint from soul changing!" Rin muttered to herself angrily, he began dragging him to the medical room back inside the school.
