Final Desire

The girl stood alone on the shoreline, painfully clutching the glass bottle. She squeezed it, hoping the feelings of regret in her hands would flow inside the clear bottle. The girl held it to her chest, breathing lightly as she kissed the the top of the shiny container.

The girl had blonde shoulder-length hair that used to reflect light, but now, it was dull. She used to be constantly smiling, but the muscles around her mouth now refused to move, therefore, it always stayed in a frown. She used to wear luxurious dresses that sparkled with jewels and golden thread, but now all that covered her cold body was a simple tan cloak. She had been so miserable lately, she even refused to eat. She told herself that she didn't deserve any of this food. This brokenhearted girl, Rin Kagamine, had been the daughter of evil.

The daughter of evil was a princess of fourteen; she was a wealthy girl that ruled the kingdom of Yellow. She could have anything she wanted – she had her handsome servant and kind twin, Len Kagamine. Her life was perfect, but she was blind. She could only see what she needed and wanted. The princess wasn't aware of the people that hated her or the wars she had brought to her fair country. She even ordered her servant to kill everyone in the country of Green, just because the one she admired didn't share the same feelings. And, soon, even the one she loved died. But even that didn't open her eyes. It was when a women from a neighboring country killed the one who was always the most important to her and who always will be.

She remembered the pain of knowing that her twin brother had been killed on his journey. At first, she didn't understand it. Her brain couldn't process all this information at once; it took a while to sink in. Once it did, though, her eyes snapped open and she finally saw what she had done.

When she discovered that the woman of Red killed her dear servant for killing her lover, she cried and cried and cried until her sadness was beyond the level of tears. She wanted to kill the woman of Red back, but she knew it was wrong. She only wanted to kill her for a short time of five minutes, but then she realized she didn't want to kill her. The woman of Red actually helped her. She helped the daughter of evil realize what she's been missing this whole time. She made her realize that what she was doing was wrong, so wrong. If she hadn't been so selfish, nothing would've gone wrong. She never wanted to be the inconsiderate princess that everyone hated. She learned that if you are to rule a country, rule it. Being in the royalty was no excuse to be a selfish brat, only caring about yourself and no one else.

To make up for all the troubles she had caused, she wanted to punish herself and give all her luxurious belongings to the people who truly needed them. She wanted to apologize for all that she had done, but would the people forgive her? To start, she gave her favorite piece of jewelry to a poor girl who lived nearby. She donated all of her clothes to a charity that helped save homeless people. They deserve nice clothes, Rin though, they've lost their homes and endured more hardships than I ever did. She gave all of her belongings to the people around town and the people who needed them. After giving away all of her materials, she retreated to the beach by her new home, which was a humble hut, only wearing a simple tan cloak, letting the dirty ground stain her bare feet in a deep shade of gray. Holding a clear glass bottle in her hand with her words of gratitude and hopes wrapped inside a thin, rolled up piece of paper. It reminds me of that day, She thought with tears that were about to spill out of her eyes, when Len and I were...-

The bright sun shone cheerfully as the two kids of ten years sat on the shore. Len had a bottle in his hand, which inside was a small fragment of a piece of paper. It was once said that if you place a piece of paper with your wish written on it inside a glass bottle and you send it into the sea, someday it will be granted.

"Write your wish on a piece of parchment and place it in a little bottle," Len showed Rin, rolling up the piece of paper and putting softly inside of the glass container. "Then, you send it into the sea." Rin nodded, not seeing how this was "fun" or "interesting" at all, as Len described it. To her, it was just throwing something into the sea. "If the bottle doesn't break, then surely, there will be a wish granted." Len threw the bottle into the sea; the twins then watched it flow farther and farther away, past the horizon. Although Rin had a cold look on her face, she listened carefully to Len's every word, and she also remembered it.

"Would you like to try it, Rin-sama?" Len bowed politely to Rin, offering her a piece of paper.

"It's too trivial for a person like me," Rin thought is was stupid, but however, it gave her something to think about. "What are you wishing for, anyway?"

"I wish you will be happy forever and ever," He smiled a friendly smile to Rin's indifferent expression. Finally, Rin smiled.

"I-If that's what you want, then always be by my side..." Rin's cheeks were stained a shade of pink. I am the happiest when I'm with Len, She realized.

"Really?" Len was quite happy when she responded with a nod. "I'm glad that I make you so happy." –

The girl, saddened by her own thoughts, clutched the bottle even tighter as a waterfall of tears flowed from her eyes. Some teardrops fell onto the wooden cork of the bottle, blessing it with her hopes. He died for my sake, Rin mentally slapped herself. Why do you always do everything for my sake? She remembered the sad look on his face when he killed that girl of the Green country. She had felt bad for Len then, but she had always thought she was the most important. But then, she ended losing who she loved, too. Kaito committed suicide, knowing that his love had been killed. And soon after that, Len was killed by that woman. The only reason why Rin was still alive was because Len did everything to protect her. He's never said 'no' to any of her requests. He had always replied 'yes' while smiling, even though he may as well be crying inside. Since he was so loyal, he even insisted that the selfish princess escape in a disguise while he tries to stop the wars, even though he knew he might get killed himself. He was perfectly willing to pay the price. Here, take my clothes, Rin remembers what he had said on that day. Don't get killed. Rin waited day after day, but Len never returned. Soon, she found out by rumors that Len was killed by the woman of Red.

Len was no longer by her side to grant her wishes. Therefore, she was no longer happy. The sea... The crying girl waded in the sea, dipping her fingers in the cold water. Will you grant my wish for me? She asked the sea as she placed the bottle slowly in the salty water. She watched as the bottle floated farther and farther away from her. It bobbed up and down in the sea until it flowed past the horizon. Placing her hands on her heart for a final strike of hope, she smiled weakly and walked slowly back home, just to get back before dark.

I hope the bottle doesn't break, Rin sighed as she hugged a plain pillow tightly. Her room was still in the castle because she wasn't able to escape, but it was no longer the room with the grand four-poster bed lying in the middle of the large room. It was a room that slaves lived in. Ironically, she actually liked being in this dirty room. She had always thought the room had a warm feeling to it, unlike the dark, cold aura which her previous room contained. Leaning against the cold stone wall and sitting on her small bed, she soon fell asleep as she whispered to the pillow in her dreams. "Why am I so selfish? Why did you do everything for me, even though it caused you sorrow?" A small drop of moisture fell from her closed eyes.

The girl woke up the next day to the blinding rays of sunshine blessing her room. Yawning, she walks over to the bathroom to take a shower, relieving the tension in her mind. She sat with her knees against her chest on the floor of the shower, holding the shower-head to her right cheek. She kept thinking about the wish she had made yesterday. Was it selfish of me to wish that you would be with me again? She clutched the shower-head to her heart. Wouldn't you be better off without me? You would be happy without anyone to bother you. Tears spilled from the corner of her eyes. No... I refuse to give up hope. The sea will carry my message to you. She dried herself off and dressed herself in an old tan dress. Rin immediately ran out of the castle and to the beach.

When she arrived at the port, she closed her eyes, feeling the comforting breeze against her skin. Staring beyond the horizon, she wished that the bottle had safely made its way to the heavens. To her despair, she silently gasped and frowned when she sees a glass bottle a few feet away from her on the same shoreline. That... That's not my bottle, is it? She silently prayed. Kissing the cork of the glass container, she opens it and takes the sheet of paper out. She unrolled it slowly, a look of fear and gratitude slightly painted on her face.

"You always did everything for me, no matter what, but I was always selfish and causing you trouble. You are no longer by my side to grant my wishes, so I will let the sea express my gratitude. My wish is being carried away with my tears and my regret. Why is it that realizing one's sin, unfortunately, always occurs after it is too late?

But if we could be reborn in our next life...

It would be nice if we were with each other again.

Rin Kagamine"

She rolled up the parchment again and quickly dropped it into the glass bottle, crying. She whispered to the bottle, wading into the sea. Her dress became wet, sending chills through her frail legs. "'This selfish wish doesn't deserve to be granted', is that what you are trying to say?" She pressed the bottle against her cheek and let out a stifled cry. She went farther into the sea; the salty water stung her thighs which were already cold. "Please," She pleaded the bottle. "Please deliver my wish." Having faith in the small glass bottle one more time, she placed it gently into the sea and ran home.

She kept staring outside the window of her room, and watched the bottle fade from the horizon there. I wonder if Len is happy, She wondered. Do you think he's happy? She asked the bottle internally. After a few hours, the sun started to set. Rin looked out of the window, admiring the beautiful colors in the sky. What a beautiful sunset. A warm feeling rose in her heart. I might as well go take a walk, She figured. That should take my mind off of Len. Remember, he's happier without you.

Rin walked around the small town, trying to ease the pain of her broken heart. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop thinking about Len. Why... Why is it that he had to die? Couldn't I have died for him? Rin passed the beach. She immediately stopped walking and started to stare at the monotonous tide rise and fall. It wouldn't hurt to go to the beach, She sighed.

When she finally reached the shoreline, she glanced around the beach, hoping her bottle would have made its way out. But, again, the bottle containing her message of gratitude was still there. Despite the light that was growing dimmer and dimmer inside her heart, she ran and picked up the stranded bottle anyway. She started to run towards the sea, blinded by sadness. She dropped onto her knees, begging the sea to hear her wish.

"I know I've been stupid... I've been selfish and unreasonable, and it wasn't fair to anyone... I'm..." The regretful girl sobbed. "I'm sorry! Len... if you can hear me, please forgive me!" She held the bottle to her forehead, as if she were begging the sea. She sobbed even harder, clenching the bottle to her heart. "Please..."

She felt her heart pound against her chest as if it were to jump out. "Please..."

"If we could be reborn..." The light words escaped her lips softly. "Then I'd want..."

"Then I'd want to be with you again," A male voice and a flash of blonde hair stood behind her. But, by the time Rin wiped the dirty tears away from her eyes, the silhouette was gone. It couldn't have been Len... Could it?

"Yeah... That would be nice, would it?" She smiled genuinely for the first time in a while.

Her exhausted heart finally gave out. Her limp body dropped into the salty water of the cold ocean, carrying it softly with the currents. She closed her eyes and relented to the strong pull of the waves, letting it carry her out into the sea with her only wish. Please... Take me to Len. That is my final desire.

"...Yup, she's ready to go," A deep voice can be heard. Rin slowly opened her eyes. "Do you know your name?" The man in a lab coat asked. Rin nodded. Rin Kagamine, that's what it is, right? She confirmed with herself. "That's great!" The man smiled. "Here are some people we'd like you to meet."

Miku, Meiko, and Kaito all smiled and waved cheerfully at her. Rin smiled back innocently.

"Oh, I almost forgot," The scientist muttered softly. "Rin, you also have a twin brother."

"A... Twin brother?" She echoed. She could feel her heartbeat quicken.

"Yeah," The man smiled again. He laid his hand on the blonde boy's shoulder and he walked forward, smiling. "His name is-"

"Len!" Rin gasped, her eyes brightening. A few tears gushed out of her eyes. She ran to him and jumped into his arms into a joyful embrace. Glimpsing into his eyes, Rin quickly blushed and locked her lips with his. Len was a bit surprised, but he liked it. He kissed her back passionately while the other Vocaloids all kicked themselves internally for not bringing a camera. "I'm always the happiest when I'm with you... So don't ever leave me again!" Thank you... Thank you for granting my final desire.
