"I get the TV tonight!"
"No, I do!"
"I'm the one who has the remote, so I get the TV!"
"Well, I've been waiting to see this movie for weeks now, so the TV is mine!"
It was a typical Saturday night. My parents were out, leaving me and my twin brother Len, alone. Which, when it comes to me and him, means trouble.
Okay, I'm exaggerating. Len and I don't always fight. We actually get along really well. But like any pair of siblings, we get into our fair share of arguments.
However, I'm pretty sure most people don't fall in love with their brother.
Yeah, yeah, that's right. I, Rin Kagamine, have fallen in love with my twin brother.
It's not even my fault. It's Len's! He's the one who is so smart...and funny...and cute. He's a great listener, he always helps me with my problems, and he's just awesome!
So why shouldn't I be in love with him?
Right.
Anyway, Len and I had gotten into an argument about who was watching what on the TV. He wanted to watch some show that his friend had told him about; while I wanted to watch a movie I'd been waiting for for three weeks. He had the remote, and I was trying to gently get him to give it to me.
"Dammit Len, give me the remote!"
Turns out being gentle never gets you anywhere.
"Never!" he screamed, before running into the kitchen.
I rolled my eyes, but chased after him anyway. After about five minutes of cat and mouse, I cornered him.
"I win," I said smugly, holding my hand out for the remote.
His eyes narrowed. "I didn't say I was going to give it to you if you caught me," he replied just as smugly.
I sighed. "So how do you want to settle this then?"
He thought for a moment. "How about you give me three reasons on why I should give you the remote?"
Too easy. "One, I've been waiting to watch this movie for three weeks while you just heard about this show two days ago."
"Keep going."
"Two, they'll probably play reruns off your show for days, but my movie won't play for at least another two months."
I expected for him to argue with me on that one, but he just motioned for me to continue.
"And three..." I paused, trying to think of something else. After a moment, I realized that I had nothing else. Crap.
"Well?" Len asked, that smug smile creeping back onto his face. His cute face of his...
I mentally slapped myself. Now was not the time for that. I had to come up with a third reason. And I had to do it fast; both of our programs had already started.
"I'm older than you!" I finally blurted out.
"By a minute," Len replied, rolling his eyes.
"And five seconds," I reminded him.
"Oh, God forbid I forget those five seconds," he mumbled, rolling his eyes again.
"Hey! Don't diss my five seconds! Lot's of important things can happen in five seconds," I told him in defense.
"Like?"
Hmmm. What important things did happen in five seconds? I thought that over, looking around the room until I finally met his gaze. He was staring back at me, his blue eyes practically boring into my own.
What could happen in five seconds?
Before I knew what I was doing, I had pulled Len into an embrace and kissed him swiftly but squarely on the lips. I quickly let him go as soon as my brain caught up to my actions.
"That," I said, stepping back, cheeks blushing a bright red. Len stared at me for, perhaps, another five seconds, before breaking into a grin.
"Actually sis," he said, stepping back up to me, "That was only four and a half seconds." He pulled me into the same embrace I had just pulled him into, dropping the remote to the floor. Neither of us cared.
And this time, the kiss lasted longer than five seconds.
