Orphan

Tsubasa and I run from the people chasing us. His hand in mine, my heart racing. We finally we turn down an alleyway 'do you think they'll find us?' I asked 'nah we're fine…probably' Tsubasa laughed, 'you still have it right?' I asked 'yeah' Tsubasa held up the loaf of bread.

Tsubasa and I snuck out of the ally and walked a few blocks ahead and turned down an alleyway where lights don't reach. Tsubasa broke the loaf of bread in half and handed one of the half's to me. We slowly ate the bread despite the fact that we were starving.

The streetlights lighten up as the sun goes down, Tsubasa sits on his knees and tells me to rest. I lay my head on his lap and glace toward the street. People stared at us with a look of pity I ignore them and I drift off to sleep.

The next morning Tsubasa told me to wait by the street lamp with the old ball-dancing poster I stair at it and compare their clothes with mine and I would feel heartache whenever I looked at it. I heard steps behind me 'maybe I'll have better luck next time I was so close getting a pomegranate but the store keeper was eyeing me so yeah' Tsubasa looked at me and looked at the poster and he held my hand 'One day we'll hold hands like this and we'll dance on a stage' Tsubasa said smiling.

That night I dreamed about it me in a beautiful pink ball gown with a tiara sitting on my head and my hair is brushed and in a bun and Tsubasa looking very handsome in his suit And his black hair combed back.

I'm suddenly awoken by my coughing Tsubasa watching me with a look of worry 'Misaki are you alright?' he asks 'I'm fine it's nothing to worry about' I smiled.

12 months later….

I have to admit winter is the hardest month. Now we have to deal with hunger and coldness. I start to cough again I cover my mouth with my right hand once I finished coughing I brought my hand away from my mouth and I see something red I bring my hand up to my face and I see blood on my hand. I reach up to my mouth with my left hand that has no blood on it and touch my mouth I looked a my left hand now spotted with blood… I'm going to die soon I know it. Tsubasa comes up behind me 'Hey Misaki' he says I quickly wipe the blood away from my mouth and turn to face him hiding my hands 'I got an orange for you…I thought you might want it…you know seeing how you're not feeling good and all' he smiled sadly. I grab his wrist with my bloodied hand and ran. The warmth of his hand; I can't feel it anymore. I kept running into people and fell many times, hoping I won't be late 'Please let me keep the promise even if the end comes' I mumble.

We finally reach our destination the winter sea. I run ahead and Tsubasa walks behind finally catching up. He shyly takes my hand covered in blood 'Misaki…may I have this dance?' he asks 'yes' I smile we start to slowly dance. I hoped this would continue till death even though I kept tripping over unfamiliar steps. Tsubasa pulled me in and hugged me and didn't let go. My eyes filed up with tears for the first time 'hey…do you think someday we can come here again? Then I'll be better, I'll wear prettier clothes and we'll dance one more time' I tried to be optimistic as Tsubasa stared at me with a serious face. It starts to snow as if it was announcing my end 'it seems like…the pieces of our dreams are falling' Tsubasa said while wiping a tear from his face.

After a couple hours Tsubasa and I walked back to the alley. I laid down, I could feel the last moment coming I looked to the side and saw Tsubasa gathering snow and laughing with Tears falling from his eyes. I wanted to eat that stolen bread once more but I know I can't now 'thank you for all that you've done. Sorry but everything is disappearing into darkness…' I said breath my last words I could hear Tsubasa yelling my name 'MISAKI! MISAKI! No you can't leave I love you' were the final word I heard from my beloved

I had to bury her she deserved it. The girl I loved had been wiped off this world and entered another I kneeled in front of the grave, tears filled my eyes 'hey…let's someday…'
