When I awoke, I saw nothing. I wasn't even sure if I woke up. A million questions came stumbling into my head.
Who am I? Where is this place? What happened? How did I get here?
Those were just a few examples. After a while, my eyes began adjusting to the blackness. Looking up, I saw what seemed to be an enormous piece of clockwork. Suddenly, it began vibrating.
"Boy who has sinned," an eerily familiar voice reverberated, "You are on the other side of eternity. You will stay here forever."
Memories started returning to me.
"Rin!" I remember screaming. "Len! Please don't take him away!" Rin said between tears, clawing at the guard's armor.
"Wait princess! You forgot your-Oof" I winced, recalling when Rin had forgotten her snack and while delivering it, got hit by Josephine.
"Oops, sorry! Hahaha," remembering the green maiden's innocent laugh when I first met her made my heart ache.
The green maiden's blood spilling on my clothes, houses being burned down.
"No, Len don't leave!" Rin said, clinging onto the dress that I wore.
Finally, I recalled my death. Rin standing in the crowd, screaming in despair when the gullitone fell.
One after another, painful memories were recalled. Looking down, I noticed for the first time that my hands and feet were chained up. My hands were chained by red handcuffs and my feet were chained up by blue foot chains. I looked at them sadly, feeling guilty for the pain they both experienced.
I may not have noticed, but a small lullaby was being played. Ru Ri Ra, Ru Ri Ra, the sound soothed me. But did the lullaby have a meaning? Who was singing it? Time went by and the lullaby grew clearer. I realized that it actually had a meaning. So I added new words and made it mine. Singing it over and over again, I began to feel hope. Hoping I could apologize to the red warrior, to the blue prince. Hoping the green maiden would still forgive me…Hoping to see Rin again.
As if responding to my wish, a small light appeared. The clockwork began moving.
"Its not that your sins are not unpardonable" The voice said in a much gentler tone. It took me no time at all to realize it was the green maiden.
"But if we alter the song, then," the light continued.
The red handcuffs fell off. "You will be reborn somewhere else." The red warrior said.
The blue foot chains broke and said "today will be your new birthday." The blue prince ended.
The green maiden appeared beside me in different clothes. I noticed I was wearing new clothes too. Before I could say anything, she pointed towards a mirror.
"She is waiting for you," the green maiden, smiling, said.
"I-"
"You better not keep her waiting."
I looked at the green maiden once more and ran towards the mirror, noting that a tear had fallen down the green maiden's face. And sure enough, there she was, my princess stood on the other side of the mirror waiting. Her face lit up immediately when she saw me.
"I will join you soon, my princess…"
