Chapter 10
The End
I pull up the dreadful floorboard, wondering how I could have been so stupid. Everything he's stolen was hidden under here, he dug it up and made a small cavern underneath... I am pretty stupid, aren't I? I laugh out loud, and he drops down next to me.
"We have to hurry, it won't be long before the police catch on." He states, pulling an expensive looking painting from the hiding place.
I nod, helping him with whatever I can.
After we've gathered everything up, we put it in suitcases, boxes, anything it'll fit in, and leave the house.
The snow has melted, and it'll rain soon... So we have to hurry this up.
"Would you like to do the honors?" He asks, holding out a matchbox for me to take.
I nod, smiling, and strike a match.
Upon dropping the match inside and shutting the door, it spreads fairly quickly through the old, dead wood. It's as dark as the rest of this horrible town, and our 'deaths' will be the perfect excuse... No one will realize that really, we've just run. Run away, to find a brighter, better place where no one knows us.
He reaches over and takes my hand, watching with me the flames climb higher. "We'll be alright, I promise." He says, and I nod, slowly.
"I know..."
