Len has been gone for a while.
I don't know where he is.
It's been a month since Rin died, the three of you were best friends.
He's probably at he beach again, why don't you check there?
I'll wait here for you. You know how close he was to his twin.
At the beach
You walk down the sand dunes. It doesn't take you long to see him, he's standing at the waters edge, throwing something in the water.
As you walk towards him you notice a huge amount of starfish have washed up on the shore.
'they must of washed up in the storm last night' you think. As you get closer to Len you notice that what he is throwing into the ocean was the washed up starfish.
You walk up to him till your next to him.
"What are you doing?" You ask him, watching as he throws another starfish into the sea
"Throwing starfish back into the ocean" He states simply. You sigh.
"I know that. But, why?"
"Because if you don't, they'll die" Len says, throwing another. It lands in the ocean with a splash. You look around you, there are millions of starfish around you both. Shining dark red and blue in the setting sun. You look up at Len
"But, there are thousands here, millions even. You can't possibly make a difference."
Len bends down and picks another dark blue starfish. His yellow hair isn't in his usually ponytail and falls around his face. You sigh. You know how hard it is for him since Rin died from that illness. You look at your friend again as he throws the starfish as hard as he can.
He turns and grins at you "Made a difference to that one"
You smile at Len. Despite everything, he's continuing. For Rin. He's living the life she couldn't. You bend down and pick up a pink starfish. You run your fingers along it's rough surface, before throwing into the ocean.
"Made a difference to that one…" You whisper, before tipping back your to look at the pink sky. Made a difference…a difference we couldn't make for Rin.
