Sequel of Evil

Chapter 7
Trust

The next day, Rin walked into Kaito's room with breakfast. "Breakfast, your Highness."

"Thank you, Len," Kaito smiled and took the meal.

Rin nodded, turning and leaving the room. There was a shout from down the hall and a scream from the room that she knew the king and queen shared.

"The king!" Rin gasped, staring in shock. He had collapsed, most likely from a heart attack.

She ran to the king, checking his pulse… But there was no heartbeat. The queen was sobbing and the servant was freaking out.

This means that Kaito will be taking over the throne now… which means a perfect opportunity to strike soon…

She ran to go tell Kaito, but Kaito was already out of his room. "What happened?" Kaito asked Rin. "Is something wrong?"

"The king died," Rin told him, "he had a heart attack."

Kaito stared at her before running into the king and queen's room. Rin was right. His father was now dead.

Miku and Len were sitting down, watching them calmly. They didn't really have an issue with being dead, it was actually rather nice for them. And they could watch over those they loved, they could do (almost) anything. The only downside was that they couldn't really make communications with the living… yet.

"It was just his time," Miku murmured softly. Len nodded.

Everyone in the town went to the king's funeral. Kaito looked around, but to his disappointment, he didn't see the girl he had met at the masquerade ball. He didn't want to send any knights after her, for fear of accidentally picking the wrong girl.

Days seemed to fly by for those in the castle. Weeks passed by a bit more slowly but somehow just as fast. Kaito had become king by the next few days after his father's death, quickly filling in for his father. Kaito merely waited for the Halloween festival. The only thing he actually looked forward to was meeting the girl again.

Rin continued to serve him as a servant. Now it had come to the point where she was with him whenever he wasn't sleeping or when she was doing another chore, or when one of them was using the bathroom to bathe or anything. She was positive that she had his complete trust by now.

The months continued to pass by, and then it was finally Halloween. Kaito actually looked cheerful for once since becoming king. It was the day before, so Kaito and Rin were relaxing in the courtyard.

"What do you think I should dress as, Len?" Kaito asked Rin, watching the fish in the pond swim around.

Rin was sitting on the ground in front of the pond beside him. She shrugged. "How about a vampire?"

"That sounds nice," Kaito murmured. He smiled.

Rin smiled back. "All you would need is fancy clothes and fangs. Maybe you could even wear your outfit from the masquerade ball, if you think it might look like a vampire outfit."

Kaito nodded. "That sounds like a good idea."

Rin chuckled. "I don't think I'll be going to the festival, though."

"Why not?" Kaito asked, looking at her.

"I'll probably be in the library or finishing up some chores, it just depends," Rin shrugged. "Besides, I'm not really a 'party person'."

"Oh," he said, looking at the pond again, lowering his voice and speaking to himself, "I wonder if I'll see her again."

"See who again?" Rin asked. She thought she knew who he meant, but 'Len' wouldn't have any clue if she were him.

"A girl," he answered, a smile on his face as he thought of her.

"Who is she?" Rin asked him, sounding as curious as she could.

"I met her at the masquerade ball," Kaito told Rin. "She was this beautiful girl. She was dressed in a beautiful yellow dress, with black roses on the skirt. She had blonde hair, and her eyes were blue, but I couldn't tell much about her face because she was wearing a mask."

"Well it was a masquerade ball," Rin said.

Kaito nodded. "I knew that."

Rin shrugged. "What do you think I would dress up as if I went to the festival?"

"Probably a ghost," came his answer.

Meanwhile, Len and Miku were sitting in another area of the garden. Miku was looking at some flowers, giggling and smiling at the pretty colors she saw.

Len smiled and splashed some water from the fountain at her. No servants were around to see, so no one would be worried by the sudden splashes of water. Miku pouted, staring at him with big 'sad' eyes. "Aww Lenny~! Why are you so mean?"

"I'm not-" but he was interrupted as he was pushed into the fountain. He blinked and laughed, pushing his wet hair out of his face. He reached out to Miku and pulled her in as well, the two angels getting all wet.

"Len!" Miku complained, but she still giggled, anyway.

Len laughed as well, helping her out of the fountain. The two were able to quickly dry off for some reason. Len stared at his suddenly dry self. "Why am I already dry?"

"Because," Miku shrugged, as if it were normal. Len stared at her, then at his dry clothes again.

"Oh well," Len said, and walked with her to another part of the garden.
